As an Interaction Designer at the User Experience Group in VeriSign Authentification Business, now a part of Symantec, I now work with a team to define a new web-based console that provides our users more capabilities to manage and visualize their inventories.
What do I like most about my job?
I love that my job helps people to achieve more at work. We make the interactive tools to work for the users.
What do I do?
At work, I engage in a variety of activities:
Brainstorming: To innovate, we look outside the box for new solutions. We sketch ideas on papers, flush out ideas on sticky notes, facilitate group brainstorming with stakeholders, and expand ideas based on exemplars.
Requirement analysis: I find and clarify the design directions for every little detail. Every day, I asked different questions to analyze the users’ needs and the product requirements.
Wireframing and prototyping: Iteration is important. We present designs in sketches and wireframes as they are being conceptualized. We start with low-fi pencil sketches and end with high-fidelity interactive prototypes that are delivered to the development team.
Design tools: We use card sorting, personas/ user profiles, scenarios, flow diagrams, and affinity diagrams in design meetings to keep the process efficient and meaningful.
Who do I work with?
Every day, I collaborate very closely with the user researcher, UI developer, content writers, localization team, visual designers, product managers, sales and marketing, as well as engineers. I get feedbacks from the cross-functional team and involve the team early to develop shared understanding on the product.
